Minecraft Bedrock Mods: The Complete Add-On Guide

Bedrock Edition doesn't support Java-style mods, but it has a powerful add-on system that brings new mobs, items, mechanics and visuals to your world — on every platform, including consoles. Here's how to find, install and troubleshoot them.

What are Bedrock "mods"?

On Bedrock Edition, mods are officially called add-ons. They come in two flavours that often ship together:

  • Behavior packs — change gameplay, mobs, AI, loot tables.
  • Resource packs — change textures, models, sounds and UI.

Files end in .mcpack (one pack) or .mcaddon (a bundle of packs). Both install the same way.

Install on Windows 10 / 11

  1. Download the .mcpack or .mcaddon.
  2. Double-click the file. Minecraft launches and imports it.
  3. Open or create a world → EditBehavior Packs / Resource Packs.
  4. Tap Activate on the imported pack.
  5. Enable Experimental Gameplay if the add-on requires it.

Install on Android & iOS

  1. Download the file in your mobile browser.
  2. Tap it and choose Open with Minecraft.
  3. In-game, edit your world and activate the pack under Behavior Packs and Resource Packs.

Install on Xbox & PlayStation

Consoles can't sideload files directly. Two options:

  • Marketplace add-ons — install official add-ons from the in-game store.
  • Realms transfer — install the add-on on PC/mobile, upload your world to Realms, then join the Realm from your console.

Troubleshooting

  • Pack greyed out: it was built for a newer Minecraft version. Update the game.
  • Add-on does nothing: enable Experimental Gameplay and reload the world.
  • Achievements disabled: normal — most add-ons disable achievements per-world.
  • Crashes on load: too many packs stacked. Disable others to find conflicts.
